Wigan Auction House

Wigan Auction House

Wigan Auction House were struggling with their business broadband, and maintaining a solid and reliable connection – especially during busy auctions where over 200 people were present in the building at once. Issues with the network were bringing the Auctions to a grinding halt half way through, meaning the business had to introduce a number of breaks in service. The live auctions run with people bidding at the Auction House and remotely in real-time thanks to bespoke software. The network was vital to their business.

Vivid Web Design UK visited the site to complete an assessment of the issue and discuss the challenges being faced, reviewed the current networking setup, and made a proposal to improve networking capabilities for the Auction House.

We removed the existing BT Business Hub router and replaced it with a DrayTek Vigour Router. We ran over 300m of CAT6 cables the width and length of the huge building to provide hardwired network solutions to the Auction Stand where several computers are being used at auction times, along with a display of the current auction on a large screen TV – also requiring network.

We setup several WiFi Access Points in order to manage traffic more appropriately, and secured the current network by moving the original BT Access Point to a specific location within the secure office.

The Result

Since the install, Wigan Auction House has run several auctions without issue. WiFi remains stable and the networking solutions at front of house have continued without any downtime. Auctions now run smoothly, without downtime, allowing the house to place more items for listing at each auction – improving business efficiencies and throughput.

Wigan Storage Company

Wigan Storage Company operate a number of offices from the upper floor of their building – which is home to several businesses which all require network access. In addition to this, the company has security cameras and a security system with remote monitoring and rapid response included. Issues with network reliability caused issues within the office space, increasing processing times. The poor reliability also had the potential to flag up false positives on the remote monitoring and rapid response part of the security system.

After an initial consultation, we set to work with our partners to complete the improvements during times when the business was less reliant on their network. This required a number of out-of-hours visits to the site in order to complete event free.

We installed a new DrayTek Vigour router in place of the BT Business Hub, installed a HikVision rack-mounted switch to match the already installed security system, and hardwired 22 access points throughout the building. Over 500m of CAT6 cabling was run though the office, along with improved WiFi Access points to manage traffic.

The Result

As a result of the networking improvements, the offices have now expanded with the addition of several different PCs and new businesses working with the office space. The business has seen improvements in both speed and reliability, which has seen an overall improvement in the business by reducing processing times by 12%. The improvements to WiFi also has ensured that the connection to the network is available to all areas of the premises – whilst remaining secure.
